What will the 5 day course consist of?

Our skills based courses will run over 5 days and will consist of the following;

Day 1 (3.5 hours)

  • Introduction to the City of Cambridge Rowing Club, the oldest known club in Cambridge with tour.

  • Learn the rowing technique on state of the art Concept 2 Ergs (rowing machines)

  • Work as a team to take the 8 boat from our boat bay and place onto the river

  • Take turns to enter the boat while stationary and get a feel of the rowing stroke and technique

  • Learn how to stabilise the boat and follow the coxes calls

  • Row on the river Cam

  • End of session debrief

 

Days 2-5 (2 hours per day)

  • 30% land training, 70% on the water

  • Each day, we go further up the river Cam, past Chisholm Trail bridge

  • End each session with a group debrief

 

Requirements

  • Must be able to swim at least 20 metres in clothing (precaution only - not expecting anyone to fall into the river!)

  • 14+ year olds

  • Minimum weight 38kg

  • Maximum weight 120kg

  • Minimum height 5ft

Our spaces will be restricted to a maximum group size of 16 per group.  If there are no dates showing as available, or no spaces left, please register your interest here and we will try our best to accommodate you.

IMPORTANT

It's worth noting that this is a teamsport and as such, your child will be expected to attend the full course.  The boat holds a minimum and maximum of 8 people so if you do not turn up for your session, we cannot take the boat out for the remaining 7 members of your team.
