LEARN TO ROW

Adult Beginner’s rowing course

Prior to joining a course we invite people to take part in a rowing taster session.  At this session we go through the basics of rowing, get you on a rowing machine, get an ‘eight’ out – and then go rowing.

After the taster session, you will be invited to take part in our Learn to Row (LTR) course. At this, we aim to teach basic technique to a standard (British Rowing Level 1) whereby beginners can apply to join rowing clubs as an existing rower. On average, most LTR courses, consist of approx. 8-10 sessions, with 70% on water and 30% land training.

  • Rowing (grouped with others at a similar level of experience as you)

  • Session in the Cambridge Rowing tank

  • Coached Ergo (Rowing Machine) training

We provide a coach and cox to instruct you, and all required equipment.

Please register interest via the sign up link (bottom of page) and we will be in touch.

Please note, to participate in the complete learn to row course, you must:

  • Be over 16 years old

  • Be able to swim at least 50 metres in light clothing (rowing kit)

  • Be able to tread water for at least two minutes

  • Be able to swim under water for at least 5 metres

  • Have sufficient general health so that a moderate amount of exercise won’t cause a problem

To be compatible with rowing, you need:

  • Availability – commitments that allow you to be somewhat flexible with outing times and days, including evenings and weekends

  • Reliability (especially punctuality)

  • Commitment

  • Coachability (being willing to put into practice what a coach says)

The club is focused on sweep rowing (one oar each) and this is all we teach on the beginners course
